With 0.74” of gauge catch this week, conditions remain near normal for the first week of the new year. The Pascoag Reservoir has frozen over but not thick enough for ice fishing or skating (maybe later this week with expected cold temperatures). With about 2.5” of snow pack, we did see one person out cross country skiing on the edge of the lake. Winter birds like chickadees, woodpeckers, tufted titmouse and blue jays are active. We even saw a cardinal this week which have been surprisingly quiet this year. George Washington state park continues to post Low for fire danger and the NIDIS website shows no drought in the state but there are abnormally dry conditions in the southern half.
