Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: IL-BN-19
Station Name: Belvidere 5.0 NNW
Report Date: 12/27/2025
Submitted: 12/27/2025 8:06 AM
Scale Bar: Mildly Dry
Description:
Over the week only 0.04" of precip fell in the form of drizzle and light rain. And lately it's been somewhat foggy and misty with heavy stratus clouds overhead. While the snow has all melted and somehow mostly soaked into the soil, its condition has remained about the same, mildly dry. The very surface is wet but with waterways continuing to run low and slow and the U.S.Drought Monitor still having this area in a moderate drought, deeper soil appears to still need a good soaking. Currently, it looks pretty gloomy outside with the trees mostly brown and grey and the sky heavy with thick and low stratus clouds. Wildlife has been quiet enough and it's likely they enjoy these recent warmer temperatures. I did see something unusual the other day. While out hiking about, at least 40 robins were flying around in a wooded area thick with brush. This was after having over a foot of snow and subzero temps the previous couple of weeks. They must have found food somewhere, probably from the berries of the tenacious, invasive and ever pervasive Morrow's Honeysuckle. No wonder those shrubs are just about everywhere.
