Thus far for my “Watershed,” that resides in the “Upper Passaic River” Watershed, that covers from 1.5 miles to the NW to about 1.5 miles to the SE and is about 1 mile in width and in the general shape of a diamond;
There were four days with measurable precipitation and no days with trace precipitation for a total of 1.77”, the past seven days [Sunday-Sat]. River and stream volume the past week of this CMR increased their rates of flow over small lake dams west of this station. As of Sunday morning, 12/21; one increased its flow to 80% the width of the dam 6.5 miles from this station moving at a fast volume with some turbidity. The other, 2 miles to the west, also increased its flow over its fall, covering about 100% of its respective fall and moving at a similar, volume with some turbidity. The Madison Golf Course, adjacent this station remains closed for the season. The ground around this station is frozen. Grass and weeds remain dormant for the season. The Juvenal Oak’s continue to hold about 70% of their leaves. House Finch were active this week as evidenced by about 75% of the feeder was used since being filled for the first time this season 21 days ago. The same was not refilled the past seven days. No Crows or Ravins were observed this week. Dark Eyed Juncos continue to be observed beneath the feeder, in great numbers. Neighborhood squirrels were observed. The neighborhood Ginkgo trees that dropped their stinky fruits 11 weeks ago, continue to hold their foul smell. The first Frost observation for this station, this season, was reported on October 10th. Since then; I have observed and reported a total of 20 days with frost, 2 additional the past week.
Over the past 31 days; this station has captured and reported 4.09 inches of precipitation. There has been 131 days of precipitation the previous 345 days of CY2025 [1/1/2025 to 12/20/2025] for a “Calendar Year” [CY] total of
45.78”, compared to 124 Precipitation Days” and a [CY] total of
53.70” the same [year to date] in CY2024. So far, compared to last year, this station has received 7.92” less precipitation than a year ago. Some other totals from previous years, for comparison, are;
YTD2023- 56.74”
YTD2022- 44.94”
YTD2021- 53.46”
YTD2020- 49.44”
YTD2019- 59.80”
YTD2018- 66.84”
YTD2017- 42.04”
YTD2016- 42.82”
YTD2015- 38.32” (First full Year.)
The running ELEVEN year average reported precipitation for THIS station is: 5037” inches, holding this station at a deficit of 4.59 less then the 11 (CY) year average and making this year to date, (still holding) the fifth driest year monitoring this station. Considering the eleven year annual comparable total for this station and more precipitation the past week, is why I believe that it is appropriate to maintain this week’s report on the “normal” side of the Condition Scale Bar.
