Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: SC-SM-30
Station Name: Sumter 1.1 SSW
Report Date: 12/15/2025
Submitted: 12/15/2025 9:40 AM
Scale Bar: Mildly Dry
Description:
Mildly Dry this past week due to the previous long dry spell. Not a lot of rain this week (0.07”; 3.57” below the NOAA normal for this week), but a bit in the last couple weeks. 2.60” rain for Dec (+0.84” or 148% of normal). 45.91” for the year (+1.35” or 103% of normal). Last 30 days is 2.60” below NOAA normal, and last 90 days is 3.30” below NOAA normal. US Drought Monitor shows us Normal, but with Abnormally Dry areas to the North and West. No snow yet, but quite a few recent frosts. SC Forestry app shows 10 wildfires scattered across the state this morning. Temps have been relatively mild this past week, except for last night’s arctic blast (18 deg here this morning; breezy with 39% RH). Even after the recent frosts, the mosquitos kept bouncing back when the WX warms back up. Hopefully this cold snap ends them for the year. Birds and squirrels are really after the feeders this morning; yesterday counted about 10-15 Baltimore Orioles in the tree waiting turns at the grape jelly. So far have bluebirds, chickadees, blue jays, cardinals, titmice, various woodpeckers, warblers, juncos, various finches, sparrows, orioles, and the always interesting wrens. Using a mix of black oil sunflower seeds, millet, various suets and mealworms. Seems to attract quite the variety. Almost all trees have finally dropped their leaves, and the lawns are dormant. While more rain would be nice to catch up from the long dry spell, the sunny days and mild temps do make it nice to be outside enjoying walking in the woods.
