Hard to judge this week but I'm going with Mildy Dry. There were only two observed conditions in the represented a change in past week: 1) Cold temperatures with insidious dry, low humidity and 2) we were walloped with a snowstorm of nearly 10". That was nearly 0.75" of liquid precipitation equivalent but because it is below freezing, most of the snow is locked in place and isn't penetrating the ground much.
It feels very January-February-ish. Folks do think this early venom from winter is out of order. On the other hand, we are rocking the White Christmas vibe just fine.
With the 10" of snow in the one storm, the school was caught out sending kids home when roads were treacherous. Reports were the buses had to crawl along country roads and avoid other cars doing spinouts. The forecast was only for 3-7" so perhaps the schools had not been adequately briefed. Still, the next day as we were all digging out, the school again went for a 2 hour delay before (rightly) cancelling the whole day. It seems as though the corridor between Route 37 and Route 11 (like the Blizzard of Christmas 2022? 23?) got walloped. I've already used that word too much.
Bird activity was suppressed during the snowstorm.
Allergies have been lower. Yay!
The rare appearance of the sun is appreciated more than ever. And so starts the week leading to solstice.
