Only about four tenths of an inch of water equivalent precipitation this week leaves us well below average for the month. But the land is frozen and vegetation dormant so there are few observable signs of the deficiency. It's been colder than normal, so we have a snowpack of around 6 inches. Another night of sub-zero temperatures on Tuesday added ice to the rivers and streams. Tracks in the snow show activity by squirrels, rabbits, porcupine, fox, coyote and deer. There was also a lot of bear activity early in the week. Greylock trails remain snow and ice covered.
