Wintery conditions continued throughout the week with brief thawing mid-week that included rain mixing with snow in the rain gauge, which explains the wide discrepancy between gauge catch and SWE measured from the snowboard. Undisturbed ground remains 100% snow covered except a few spots of bare ground briefly appeared during the mid-week rain/thaw but was quickly recovered by late week snow. Cold winds are a constant companion. Winter recreation opportunities continue. Unseasonably low temperatures on both ends of the week (+5 Monday morning) are taxing the power grid. Our winter bird community is very active in the bird feeders. The rain gauge caught 0.58 inches of precipitation, again, a mixture of snow and rain; a total of 3.3 inches of snow was measured off the snowboard which is probably understated due to windy conditions. SWE from the snowboard was 0.23 inches. The snowpack averaged about 3.5 inches with dissimilar layers of old icy snow and fresh powder. Overall, conditions are mildly wet.
