I measured a trace of rain on Nov. 12, which was the last time precipitation fell. At 6.2mm (plus 6.4mm of SWE reported on Nov. 10) I am far behind the 1971-2000 November average to date, which would be about 58mm. Rain and/or snow appears likely this week and would be very welcome! I’m in Moderately Dry condition.
Corn harvest is largely done and other than some manuring, disking, etc. there’s little agricultural activity.
I’ve recorded three frosts (low temperatures from 0C to -2C) and one freeze (-3C) this month. This years’ frost-free season ended at 208 days on Nov. 10. Most deciduous trees and bushes have lost all or nearly all of their leaves; only the late senders like Norway Maples and my witch hazel still have any foliage. Feeding songbirds and plugging the bird bath in for a few hours each morning.
Environment Canada’s Sydenham River gauge at Florence, about 30 river kilometers upstream, has level and discharge measurements of 3.076 meters and 1.036 m3/s respectively the day before yesterday at 12:45PM, which appears to be the last reliable reading.
