General Awareness: This past week we received 1 inch of heavy wet snow; with 0.18" in the rain gauge. Daily temperatures have gone from a low of -3 C to an afternoon high of +17 C one afternoon. Each day the snow continues to melt a little more. River levels remain low.
Local events: A Fall supper was held for members/families at the Harmattan Community Centre.
Energy: Most evenings we used the wood heater.
Fire: There is currently no fire restriction or ban within Mountain View County.
Plants & Wildlife: The ground is dry. We've had a little snow but people need to use caution.
Deer and bears: One morning, I noticed deer tracks in the garden. No sign of bears in our area. Occasionally deer can be seen out in the fields or along tree lines.
Birds at feeders: 4 Blue Jays; 5 chickadees - black-capped; nuthatches - 2 white-breasted and 1 rose-breasted; wood-peckers - 1 Hairy, 1 Downy; 1 Northern flicker; 1 Pileated; 15 House-sparrows.
Flocks of geese and swans continue to fly south.
Insects: On a warm afternoon, we had a number of honey bees at water dishes.
Relief, Response & Restrictions: Absence of burn-bans and fireworks bans.
Society & Public Health: Neighbors are thankful for the snowfall.
Tourism & Recreation: Outdoor enthusiasts are heading to the mountains where there is snow.
