Scale Bar: Near Normal
Description:
Fire danger is low. It's been warm and wet. The soil is evidently saturated now, for less than 0.1" of rain overnight left puddles in the driveway that have lasted over 3 hours so far without soaking in. I see a helicopter most days, and the Christmas tree farms are loading their trees into big trucks and containers (I saw 2 that said Hawaii on the side) I think at least one, and maybe more tree farms in the area are collecting their trees via helicopter. I haven't seen our deer for a few days. Don't know why. Birds of several kinds are plentiful, and seem to be finding plenty to eat. Even though it is warm, there seems to be fewer mice than usual. I'm hoping this is a reflection of the work of our barn cats - but maybe mice are hibernating even if it is this warm. The red-legged frogs seem to be having a good time, I'm hearing them croaking in many places as I go about the forest. Low temperatures have only been close to 40F a couple times in the past 2 weeks. All sorts of bienniel and perennial weeds and grasses are growing. There are still a few leaves in some trees, but the vast majority are down. Apples are still clinging to their branches, and they are holding in a ripe state there quite well. The creek is up about 4-6 inches above its summer level.
