Description:
General Awareness: Precipitation: 152.9 mm of rain in the last 2 weeks. 
113.5 mm for the month-so-far, which is 135% of average total precipitation. There has been no snow yet this year in the village, a deficit of 2.6 cm from the average.  Snow is visible on higher elevations.

Weather Observations: The weather has been typically autumnal: a mix of rain, wind, cold, sun, and calm. A series of wind & rain storms came through, which is normal for this time of year.

Drought Monitoring Assessments: The season for provincial drought assesments is over.  Likewise there is no current drought conditions available from Agriculture Canada. The Tsitika River, Keogh River & Wakemen River are all registering normal flow.  
Marble River is showing below normal flow. 

Business & Industry: Fishing: DFO (Tidal Area 12): Sockeye salmon & yewlloweye rockfish are non-retention.  Lingcod is closed.

Energy: Heating/cooling of homes: We have been running the electric heat & using the pellet stove. The village smells of woodsmoke when the air is calm.

Fire: Burn Bans: None Wildfire: There are no fires in our region at this time. 

Wildlife: Corvids, eagles, and songbirds have been noted in the yard.

Society & Public Health: BCCDC reports (as of November 1) that flu & RSV virus loads in wastewater were low and rising.  CoViD levels are moderate & decreasing.  Emergency & primary care visits for respiratory virus are increasing, but typical for the season. 
As of November 6, the BCCDC reports no active measles cases within the Island Health Authority. 
 
Water Supply & Quality: OW 201 is at 6.65 m below the surface, which is is in the normal range for this time of year.  
This is the first time the well level has been in the normal range since the end of November 2024. 
In response to concerns about the level being very low for the last few years & the danger of saltwater ingress, a groundwater monitoring specialist at the province has told us that due to budget & staff limits, there is no plan to sample our water at this time.
