Harvest was a very rewarding time, good weather and long days in August. September brought some wet weather and delayed harvest progress until the third week of the month. The season seemed quite normal with much migratory bird activity and few hunting disruptions to the bird preparations for the migration. Fire hazard was quite high but most days passed with little signs of smoke on the horizon. Water levels in surface ponds and dugouts seemed to stay free from algae, which I take as the balance of nature performing as it should.
We experienced a good rain event in early October, Canadian thanksgiving weekend. The two inch rain meant fall growth in the fields and regrowth in pasture and hayland. The fall weather has extended into November with the first "killing frost" happening this past weekend. Water bodies have begun freezing over and we have a trace of snow on the ground which will melt in the next two days.
Apart from the wind, the fall weather has been good for outdoor activities.
