NIDIS rates this area as being in severe drought. The Illinois River is below its normal level. Inland streams, ponds and lakes afre at low level while some are dry. Many animals are seeking water from birdbaths. Conditions have increased the fire danger. The drought did help farmers complete harvesting their crops without weather interruptions. Rural water systems have mitigated water problems for farmers and other rural residents.
