Station Number: SC-SM-30
Station Name: Sumter 1.1 SSW
Report Date: 10/23/2025
Submitted: 10/22/2025 10:01 PM
Scale Bar: Moderately Dry
Description:
Back to Moderately Dry. While we’re at 5.93” in the last 30 days, most fell on 11-12 Oct in the passing coastal storm. No rain in the past week. Drought Monitor showing our area in D0 - Abnormally Dry conditions. For October, showing 1.57” rain above normal(164% above normal). For the year, showing 2.08” rain above normal (105% above normal). SC Forestry App showing 15 wildfires across S.C. NWS has us in a High Fire Danger alert today and tomorrow due to dry fuels, very low humidity and breezy conditions. Local swamps and ditches dry. Local trees shedding leaves, but they’re just curled and brown, very little or no fall colors. At least the cooler temps and lower humidity are keeping the mosquitos down. Birds and squirrels busily working the feeders as we move deeper into fall. Non-irrigated lawns turning dry, brown and crunchy. Pool needs constant water added as the low humidity and breezy conditions with no rain keep slowly dropping the water level. Local cotton fields look close to harvest.
