Traditionally our monsoon moisture arrives in July and August, which this year were abnormally dry. The totals got bumped up due to storms in September, typically a dry month. During most of the summer, plants were stunted, reproducing but not striving. The burst of moisture in September caused a corresponding burst of growth, with spring and summer bloomers flowering along with the fall species. Unusual to see milkvetch, desert marigold and Blackfoot daisies blooming alongside our purple asters and snakeweed. Stunted blue grama grass has risen to over 2 feet. An interesting fall.
