Long term is near normal, but last six weeks has seen a severe flash drought. No rain in past 9 days and just 0.35” for September. 1.21” in August and September combined and are now below normal for calendar year after having a surplus from wet April and May. Several new dead pine trees and non-oak deciduous are turning yellow and red and shedding leaves about a month early. Smaller creeks have run dry and many lawns are brown and dormant. Insects and wildlife looking for water sources like our horse water tanks. Corn cobs have looked small and shabby. Late plantings of soybeans are stunted. Soil is bone dry for top several inches and anything in gardens not getting heavy frequent watering has died off.
