Thus far for my “Watershed,” that resides in the “Upper Passaic River” Watershed, that covers from 1.5 miles to the NW to about 1.5 miles to the SE and is about 1 mile in width and in the general shape of a diamond;
There were ONE day with measurable precipitation and zero days with trace precipitation for a total of 0.39”, the past seven days [Sunday-Sat]. River and stream volume the past week of the CMR maintained there rates of flow over small lake dams west of this station. As of Sunday morning, 8/17; one decreased and was moving at 50% percent the width of the dam 6.5 miles from this station at a slow volume and with no observable turbidity. The other, 2 miles to the west, also decreased over its fall, now covering less than 10% of its respective fall and moving at a slow volume with no turbidity. The Madison Golf Course, adjacent this station had observable play again this past week on all days. The ground around this station is dry and stiff. Grass and weeds did not require maintenance the past week. Maple trees are looking well, along with the Juvenal Oak’s and two Ginkgo Trees, also all doing well. Honey bees were observed the past week, but not as frequently. Cicadas have diminished greatly in numbers and frequency, three around this reporting property when this report was published and more dead are showing up. House Finch were active, along with Cardinals, Blue Jays, Crows and Ravens were heard again. The Hummingbird feeder had observable activity, but with less use around, 20%, and refreshed the morning of 8/17. Neighborhood squirrels, Rabbits and chipmonks were also all observed. Fire files / Lightning Bugs first flash of the season was observed the evening of 6/19, continue to be observed this week, continue to fade away as of this report. Also; Lilly’s that bloomed on 6/17, as of this report, are entirely gone. Additionally; the Hydrangea continues to fade, but are still sharing some of their beauty. The Crape Myrtle adjacent the Rain Gauge has bloomed, now 50% faded.
Over the past 31 days; this station has captured and reported 1.67 inches of precipitation. There has been 91 days of precipitation the previous 227 days of CY2025 [1/1/2025 to 8/16/2025] for a “Calendar Year” [CY] total of
31.85”, compared to 92 Precipitation Days” and a [CY] total of
41.30” the same [year to date] in CY2024. So far, compared to last year, this station has received 9.45” less precipitation than a year ago. Some other totals from previous years, for comparison, are;
YTD2023- 33.28”
YTD2022- 27.86”
YTD2021- 30.40’”
YTD2020- 30.34”
YTD2019- 41.70”
YTD2018- 39.50”
YTD2017- 30.25”
YTD2016- 31.43”
YTD2015- 24.07” FIRST****
The running ELEVEN year average reported precipitation for THIS station is: 32.90” inches, placing this station at a deficit of 1.05” less then the 11 year average and marking this year to date, the fourth wettest year recording this station. Considering the eleven year annual comparable total for this station, is why I believe that it is appropriate to continue to maintain this week’s report to the “Near Normal” side of the Condition Scale Bar.
