Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: CO-EP-371
Station Name: Peyton 8.5 WSW
Report Date: 8/17/2025
Submitted: 8/17/2025 5:34 PM
Scale Bar: Moderately Dry
Description:
Since last reported on 08/03/2025, received only 0.20" of precipitation from daily and multi-day totals. This does not include the 0.22" previously reported on 08/03. Topsoil sample taken today indicates dry and dusty soil down to the 4.0" level. Grasses are brown but some native grasses have seeded out with the minimal moisture we received. Tumbleweeds have sprouted all over the yard. I am providing supplemental water to the trees that have been planted in the past year. Birds have been very active around the water feature and for the first time, we have seen as many as five hummingbirds at one time in backyard garden areas. Observed one small dead bird under a pine tree on the north side of our yard. Cottontails have been active, and the one juvenile is getting braver with our presence. Thunderstorms that have come off the mountains seem to weaken and dry out from the heat of the atmosphere over the plains. Smokey haze from the west slope wildfires has been prevalent the past week making for some awesome sunrise and sunsets. On 08/14, we did have a thunderstorm develop right over our property and just sit stationary for almost an hour. It was a relatively weak thunderstorm with only 0.13" of precipitation and small hail stones. With the hot and dry conditions continuing with minimal precipitation, will revise the Condition Scale from Mildly Dry to Moderately Dry.
