Description:
A weak weekend storm dropped 0.05" of precipitation to cap off the week. ETo 0.50". Highs ranged between 69-74, lows 52-62. Ruth Lake Reservoir 87% on 8/15. Mad River 5.78 feet and 50.0 cfs/Eel River 6.75 feet. Trinity River temperatures between 50-59, Klamath 70-71, Mattole 55, the ocean 56-62. No change in the drought map. Politicians revealed the proposed redistricting map for Congressional Districts this week. Humboldt will join Marin, the coastal strips of Sonoma and Mendocino away from their population centers, Del Norte, Trinity, Siskiyou, Shasta and Modoc counties. I don't know how what the reaction of Redding and Yreka and Alturas will be to San Rafael controlling them, but it should be interesting. A Wilson's Warbler passed through this week, so migration must be in the early stages. A pair were previously seen May 22, on the northbound journey. Big Leaf Maples have begun yellowing along the Mad River and connecting stream beds--a little early, but close to normal timing. This week tourists and residents have the Humboldt County Fair to enjoy, but shortened to 7 days out of 9, with no horse racing for the first time in 125 years. However, there will be some excitement as the people-powered Kinetic Sculptures will gather and put sole to earth, an exhibition that could only happen in Humboldt County.
