Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: CO-LR-1272
Station Name: Estes Park 1.7 SW
Report Date: 8/17/2025
Submitted: 8/17/2025 11:40 AM
Scale Bar: Moderately Dry
Description:
On the verge of going with Severely Dry. We haven't had but .04" rain MTD. Landscape is very dry, although there is some moisture below 6" below ground level. Grasses are all going dormant, aspen trees are very stressed and photosynthesis is beginning to shut down and leaves are dropping green and yellow. Current bushes are looking stressed. Wyoming ground squirrels have gone underground for their August sleep (they will re-emerge later for a couple of weeks). My location is sitting at 4% of PRISM Normal MTD, 62% of Normal YTD, and 64% of Normal WYTD. Lots of visitors to the bird bath and the bird feeders. Many of the birds have left for the season but hummingbirds are still hanging around. The rivers are very low and I have not fished for fear of stressing the fish too much with the low water and high temperatures. Fire restrictions are in place for unincorporated Larimer County above 6,000 feet. Prohibited are uncontained fires, smoking in the open, fireworks, incendiary devices, and welding. No additional fire restrictions in Rocky Mountain National Park beyond permanent Stage 1 restrictions.
