Nearly 80% of Maine is in abnormally dry or moderate drought conditions per drought.gov. Dry conditions are very evident with fire danger up, hard soil, dry fields, brown lawns, low rates of stream and river flow, and loss of depth in rivers, streams, ponds and lakes. Late-ripening corn is hurting. Farmers are complaining. As of today, I have heard nothing about any wells going dry in the area.
