Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: AK-MS-12
Station Name: Talkeetna 7.6 S
Report Date: 9/25/2023
Submitted: 9/25/2023 7:16 AM
Scale Bar: Mildly Wet
Description:
Quite a decrease in precipitation across this past week with just 0.43" to report across three days. However, overcast persisted and the humidity remained high leaving us with moss growing on everything! While the local moose are still hiding out I cannot keep my window feeder filled as the Chickadees and Red Breasted Nuthatches are ravenous although to be honest they are squirreling away most of the black oilers they take from the feeder. We saw a couple of mornings with sub-freezing lows and this always accelerates their winter preparations. A lot of the birch leaves have turned to their fall yellow/gold and many are already on the ground making for slippery walking when added to the almost saturated earth. With the advent of calendar fall the night skies are plenty dark to view aurora and other nighttime occurrences; I always enjoy this shift. Before long we'll be seeing the first snows although I hope they hold off until the ground really freezes to prevent that darn layer of ice from forming when it snows atop yet unfrozen earth. The snow line in the Talkeetna Mountains is dropping fairly quickly now...
