Been very few breaks in harvest activities locally, picking is nearly 100% completed and tilling has started.  Have had only .34” rain for September, the last decent rain fell almost a month ago, .59” on August 26. Ground is very dry and machinery is kicking up huge dust clouds. Gave up pulling weeds, ground just won’t let go of the roots. Would like to dig and divide hostas and tiger lilies but the dirt is dry and hard as concrete, will wait until we get some rain so I can use a shovel instead of a pickaxe. Likewise, burning a large brush pile accumulated over the summer will have to wait, much too dry to risk a fire right now. On the plus side I’ve only mowed grass once the entire month of September.
