There has been only 0.80" of rainfall for the last 30 day period from 8/27/2023 thru 9/25/2023 at KY-CB-10. There is only standing pools of water and approximately 0.1 CFS of flow at the 15 to 20 sq. mi. Dogsworth watershed in Campbell County at KY1998 Industrial Road and Route 8. The pond level is low with most of the local streams completely dried up. The lawns are now about 80 percent brown. Grass growth is becoming very slow again after increasing the week before. Lawncare companies are raising only dust when they mow lawns which are now not growing. The soil is pulling away from the foundations and sidewalks. Many of the trees are starting to loose their leaves. There are numerous ants on the sidewalks. There are cracks in the local roadway ditches and in many front lawns. Based on these observations, the drought status of Campbell County is D0 - ABNORMALLY DRY - BEGINNING OF DROUGHT. Campbell County entered D0 drought category yesterday on Sunday September 24, 2023. If there is not a significant rainfall event this week, a fire hazard of lawn fires will develop this week for cigarette butts and grill fires. Good news, there is a significant amount of rain in the forecast for Campbell County during the middle of this week.
Based on the following information Campbell County is only in the D0 category: 1) 90 day rainfall 9.40" which is 90 percent normal. 2) 60 day rainfall 3.79" which is 60 percent normal. 3) 30 day rainfall 0.80" which is less than 1" on the gauge and meets the D0 category. Campbell county is not in D1 MODERATE DROUGHT category yet because the 60 day and 90 precipitation deficits are not severe enough yet to meet the moderate drought category.
