General Awareness
| I just dug 2-foot holes for planting trees, finding some moisture beneath our dry surface. But the ground was dry enough that I needed to fill the shallow starts of my holes with water and let it soak in before completing the holes. We are in a rainy/snowy weekend, but it will take much more than today’s .03 inches of moisture to ease the dryness. |

| With 0.27” precip for the week, all since yesterday, we avoided what would be a mildly dry soil condition and managed to remain near normal for now. My spring's flow has continued to decrease but is still ok. Area waterways are down a bit but all look pretty good. The trees, despite the cool temps and several frosts, continue to leaf out and look greener than expected, being about a third or so of the way to fully green. Lawns are green and were growing slowly but with the warmer temps now and more rain in the forecast, I expect them to really pick up the pace. I haven’t noticed a lot of wildlife out there but I did see a crow carrying something and wondered if it might have raided a nest. Don’t ask me how, maybe it was the way it was flying and where it kept flying to but it did seem to be acting kind of guilty. It’s a jungle out there. |

General Awareness Agriculture
| Another 1.71" of rain this week. Combine that with the cold temperatures we had this week on soil that was more wet than normal to begin with, and I had to put my condition rating on the moderately wet side. The soil is almost completely saturated with numerous spots of standing water present in crop fields. Local creeks and streams also appear to be at higher levels than normal. With more rain on the way over the next week, farmers will need a lot of sunny, dry days in a row before they'll be able to start planting. The few fields that were already planted will struggle to survive, as the extended period of cool, wet weather is very detrimental to crop seed. There's a very good chance planting progress will be behind normal for at least the next couple of weeks. |

More farm- and yard-work being done in local area. Wisteria bush in full blossom explosion, fruit trees continue to come out and bloom. When it's windy the ground begins to appear covered with snow because of the white and pink blossoms.
Deer are prowling my yard to take advantage of the new leaves on trees and bushes. I've been masking the important ones that I can and hoping for minimal damage on the rest. |
