Daily Precipitation Report
Station Number: CO-EP-333
Station Name: Colorado Springs 5.0 ENE
Observation Date 7/29/2016 6:00 AM
Submitted 7/29/2016 6:18 AM
Gauge Catch
1.52 in.
Notes
Massive hail storm (hail report filed). Hail lasted 30+ minutes. Could hear a roar from even stronger hail to the east. Liquid water content recorded is less than actual given all the hail which accompanied storm. 0.40 inches of water was in the gauge after 30 minutes, but there had been so much hail the water content was probably higher (hailstones bounced out of raingage). This was an impressive storm - one of the most impressive I've seen observing storms and weather over 42 years. Lots of lightning. A curious observation: Before the rain started the lightning was nearly continuous over most of the sky, even overhead. However, there was little thunder heard and that was not loud.
