Notes
Snow flurries and light snow showers most of the day and into the night. February 25th: It's Hogback Day! A rugged hogback ridge rises above the eastern horizon just southeast of our home. For most of the winter, the sun rises from behind the ridge, working its way south along the ridge top. At the winter solstice, it reverses its course and slowly returns to the north. On February 25th, the sun rises at the point where the ridge slopes to meet the horizon. Hogback Day. Hogback Day marks a time of ever-earlier sunrises, longer days, birds singing again after a long winter, spring just a few weeks away.
