With slightly less than two inches of precipitation recorded since January 1, all the native grasses are looking dead, the few wildflowers are stunted, cactus is shriveling.  I am watering a few flower beds.  Native grasses and wildflowers look normal where water has spread beyond the plantings. Hot weather this past week has increased the need to water.  Wildlife drinking from birdbaths, and deer eating plantings almost nightly. Worry about fire danger, too, in my urban/wildland interface property.
