Description:
While we got only .26 in. of rain this week, the ground remains moist. Early [species] Crocus and Lenten Rose are blooming, and Skunk Cabbage is blooming in the woods. Our maple tree’s buds are much bigger and redder. Two bluebirds are frequenting the new mealworm feeder. On 3/5 a starling discovered the mealworm feeder and ate most of them. Four Cardinals come regularly now. I saw a robin in the crabapple tree on 3/6, and a Red-Bellied Woodpecker and Downy Woodpecker come often to the feeder with peanut pieces, and to the suet feeders. Four or 5 Blue Jays make short work of the unshelled peanuts each morning. There are House Finches and two Mourning Doves in the yard as well.
