Description:
My husband and I flew out of Charlotte, NC to Tulsa, OK (April 14-19) for a visit with his family. Spring wx impacted the entire trip. Our flight from NC to OK was delayed several times due to severe weather and snow. T-storms slowed down our drive time, but we made the airport with time to spare. Our pilot was in Chicago; he was dealing with snow, so we had more time to spare. More storms made the first 20 minutes of flight was a roller coaster ride in the dark; very scary.
Lots of wind in Tulsa, but the weather mostly cooperated. My husband and I got to tour the NWS/SPC in Norman OK and eat at The Flying Cow Cafe. Super fun.
Our flight back to Charlotte was delayed due to severe wx in the Charlotte area. After about 20 minutes into the flight, I noticed the clouds beneath us, so I got out my camera and took photos.
However, the clouds began to change from happy flat cumulus to growing cumulus to (what looked to me) overshooting tops. Fascinating! I waited to be the last passenger off and spoke to the captain. He was glad to answer my questions: 35,000 feet cruising altitude at 525 mph. Wow!
I was amazed at how my flowers had changed in five days. I'll write about that tomorrow.
