Description:
Oct. 14-20, 2018: no precipitation. Cold AM and cool daytime temps. becoming warmer through the week. Some frost damage to very sensitive garden plants. Oaks continue to cascade acorns but the chestnut tree has mostly dropped all nuts. Beginning garden cleanup of dead and frosted plants plus the seemingly endless clean out of tree nuts before they sprout. Sunflowers, jerusalem artichoke, morning glory, and decorative potato vines are gone. Grape leaves are yellow or brown;only a few begonias can be saved. Most trees show yellowing leaves. Foliage change is probably at it's peak here now. Warming nights and days will be changing soon with the possibility of rain again. Still watering lawn an garden areas because it has been nearly 2 weeks since the last rainfall. Change in weather patterns in the last 2 days has brought inversion air quality to the valley--smoky and hazy everywhere. Birds are eating a lot of seed.
