It's been drier this week. Humidity was low. I mowed and made rows like haying a field with the grass clippings. This usually results in wet grass that needs to be picked up quickly so as not to kill the grass beneath. This was not the case for these clippings. If I were haying, this grass dried without having to be spread over a field or re-raked. For grass to be that dry it meant the ground had no moisture to be absorbed by the grass clippings.
Still not seeing all of farm fields planted as of yet. Conditions have been good with the ground this dry but the farmers aren't in the fields.
Summer song birds have just about all arrived. Insects are emerging in the trees. Woodpeckers have been busy. Not many mosquitoes.
Temperatures have been low for most of the week making for cool mornings and not very warm afternoons. My cool season vegetables are doing well in this cooler weather.
Trees are still filling out. Black Walnut trees are still somewhat bare but beginning to fill in. Some mulberries are beginning to form. Some mulberries are well behind and may not have much fruit with the earlier spring freeze.
Rain is coming but it's slowing down. I'm doing more watering.
