This week concludes with conditions mildly wet, thanks to rain arriving early in the week, frequent overcast, and moderating temperatures with good overnight recoveries. The gauge catch captured 0.53 inches of precipitation and the gauge was dry on only three mornings. Monday’s thunderstorm was responsible for 0.38 inches of the weekly total and also brought high winds that caused tree failures and downed power lines. Soils are moist to the surface. The landscape has taken on a lush-green hue as most deciduous trees are now leafed out. Outdoor recreation and agricultural activity are both vibrant and vehicular traffic seems heavier than normal. Seasonal produce stands are beginning to open. Gray catbirds arrived and have been busy gathering their nesting materials. A red-headed woodpecker was observed pecking for insects in a sweetgum tree. Spring continues to progress.
