The soil is dry and dusty with some field plants and flowers growing, much less than spring of last year. Trees are healthy. May precipitation so far is 0.41 inch, almost up to the 0.49 NOAA normal for the whole month, and more rain is expected in a few days. Our water supply is adequate, but dry conditions have prompted water managers to pump 100% of the city's water from groundwater reserves months earlier than usual. The Rio Grande River flow was near zero on Monday, then there was a sudden increase of water Tuesday through Friday, and the flow is near zero again now. Critical fire weather conditions are not forecast through the next seven days.
