Station Number: SC-SM-30
Station Name: Sumter 1.1 SSW
Report Date: 11/12/2025
Submitted: 11/12/2025 10:13 AM
Scale Bar: Mildly Dry
Description:
Still on the edge of Mildly Dry to almost Moderately Dry. Drought monitor shows us Normal, but surrounded on 3 sides by D0 - Abnormally Dry. No rain this past week; 0.09” so far for Nov. Data Explorer shows us at -1.03” (8% of normal) for Nov; +2.17” (105% of normal) for the year. SC Forestry app showing 10 wildfires scattered across SC. Wateree and Congaree rivers well down in their banks. Hiked last Thursday at Poinsett State Park; resurrection ferns curled and drying, but a faded green vs grey. Hickories are bright yellow, with dogwoods a bit pink. Sourwoods have already turned red and dropped their leaves. Leaf litter and pine straw dry; soil dry down to an inch or so. But the spillway is running normally (spring fed pond). Nice to see all the leaf colors. Mosquitos were surprisingly suppressed, the cooler temps and dry conditions really helped keep them down. Local swamps holding a little water, but not much. Roadside ditches dry. Lawn at home, and the pool, are covered with river birch leaves. Local cotton fields drying and ready to harvest. Maple and hickory trees in the yard are bright yellow. Have had one night (Monday) of freezing temps, but no frost due to steady wind. Feels good to be busy outside.
