Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: CO-EP-371
Station Name: Peyton 8.5 WSW
Report Date: 10/5/2025
Submitted: 10/06/2025 7:27 AM
Scale Bar: Near Normal
Description:
Since last reported on 09/21/2025, reported measurable precipitation on 09/23 and 9/24 totaling 0.04" during daily observations. Multi-Day report covering 09/27/2025 through 10/01/2025 reported 0.38". This event actually occurred on 09/29/2025 when numerous showers and thunderstorms covered the Front Range. However, since this event was covered in the Multi-Day report, it statistically shows up in the October Precipitation Summary. Currently, the September precipitation summary indicates Daily totals of 0.27" and Multi-Day totals of 0.80". The current September total is showing 1.07". However, if we move the 0.38" from October to September, the September total is 1.45". The September NOAA Normal is 1.33" and PRISM Normal is 1.67".

Topsoil sample taken today down to the 3.0" level indicates dry soil the first 1.0". At about 2.0", the soil is slightly moist. Trees will need to be watered today. Topsoil was significantly moister after returning home at the end of September. Grass is still green despite the daily sunshine and breezy conditions. These dry warm conditions are typical for September/October. Largest Aspen tree in front yard began changing color quickly this past week. The smaller Aspen are still mostly green.

Mild mornings have turned into mostly chilly mornings now with lows in the upper 40's to around 50 degrees. Removed the stabilizers from the trees that were planted a year ago. The trees passed with flying colors yesterday with winds gusting upwards of 40mph. Mowed the grass for the last time this growing season. We should be getting our first frost/freeze in the next couple of weeks. Perennials are still looking good with the drip system still on. I will be shutting that down in the next week or so. Bees are still all over the Russian sage that still has retained many of its blossoms. Bird activity has dropped significantly as many have migrated south. Observed two Falcons hovering over the undeveloped land to the north yesterday. With moisture still in the soil and occasional precipitation events, I will maintain a Condition Scale of Near Normal.
