Submitted: 10/05/2025 8:44 AM
Scale Bar: Mildly Dry
Description:
This last week brought a wet end to the water year with 1.26" on September 30th. September ended up with 2.76", 332% of normal, while the water year ended with 71.13", 139% of normal, but still not the highest amount recorded here in the last 40 years. ETo was 1.14" for September and year-to-date is a low 10.31"--but that's good for the plants since the late spring and summer were very dry. Temperatures ranging in low 70s during the day and low 50s at night. Ruth Lake Reservoir on 9/29 was at 78%. No change in drought map. Mad and Eel Rivers remain low. Pastures are greening up, and are being grazed again, as we begin to get more rain. On October 1, Six Rivers National Forest removed the burning ban, but still urged caution, while the North Coast AQD still has the no-burn rules in effect. Tourists and day trippers abound this weekend with the Redwood Coast Jazz Festival in Eureka and the Renaissance-style Faire with jousting and costumes galore in Blue Lake. Three Spotted Towhees showed up this week, second earliest date for their arrival in 13 years, while a Song Sparrow still hangs out with the Dark-Eyed Juncos and Steller Jays.
