We had a very wet late winter, where rainfall FINALLY brought water levels in wet woods and vernal ponds back to a healthy level (after a number of years when vernal ponds and wet woods were dry through the winter and the rest of the year). Since these late winter rains we've had a dry stretch with strong winds and high and fluctuating temperatures (80 degrees for several days and 32 degrees at 7 am on April 26th) that have dried out my 1/2 acre wildlife garden. Yesterday I dug up a number of plants to share with fellow wildlife gardeners and the soil was bone dry.
